How to Apply for Housing at Amethyst Place

Thank you for your interest in becoming a resident at Amethyst Place! We are excited to support mothers and their children on their journey to stability and independence. Read our step-by-step application process below to determine if Amethyst Place might be a good fit for you and your children.

Eligibility

In order to qualify to live at Amethyst Place, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Currently undergoing a housing crisis.
  • Must be working toward a recovery lifestyle and have at least 30 days of sobriety to apply.
  • Must have physical custody of their children or have the potential for regaining physical custody as verified with child welfare/family court.
  • All children who would live full-time at Amethyst Place must be younger than 16 years of age at admission.
  • Candidates must have a substance use disorder and be receiving treatment and/or working toward recovery.

Step 1: Initial Screening Application

Prospective applicants or their case managers begin by completing a Screening Application and uploading required documents through our secure Rental Listings Portal. This helps us determine basic eligibility before moving forward.

How to Access the Application:

  • If you are working with a referring agency, they will provide you with the link.
  • You can also find the application link on our outreach flyer via the QR code.
  • Visit our Rental Listings Portal and click ‘Apply Now’ next to the unit size that fits your family’s needs.

Our team will review applications and notify applicants of their status within 7 days.

Step 2: Full Application

If eligible, applicants will receive a link to complete the Amethyst Place Full Application. This step provides us with more detailed information about your family’s needs and circumstances.

What to Expect:

  • If approved to proceed, applicants will receive the full application link via email within 7 days of submitting their screening application.
  • If not eligible, applicants will be notified within 7 days.
  • The full application is lengthy, and there is no save feature to pause and complete later.
  • Prepare the required documents for upload before starting the application process. The list of eDocumentation Requirements can be found in the next section.

Step 3: Case Manager Feedback

Once the full application is submitted, we will request feedback from the case manager listed on the application. This helps us ensure the best support for each applicant.

Next Steps:

  • Case managers will receive an email with a feedback form within 7 days after submitting your completed application.
  • Our team will review all information and follow up regarding the next steps in the housing process.

Step 4: Screening Interview

Once steps 1-3 are completed, we will invite you to participate in a virtual screening interview to make sure that you understand our program requirements and answer any questions that you may have. Your referring case manager will also be invited to participate.

Step 5: Program Intake

Once you are next on our waitlist and an apartment opens that meets your family’s unit size, we will schedule your intake date.

eDocumentation Requirements

Listed below are our documentation requirements for different milestones throughout the application and admissions process, which include:

  • Scheduling a screening interview for admission to Amethyst Place
  • Moving into Amethyst Place
  • After moving in, coming off the probationary period at Amethyst Place

All documents not uploaded at the time of application submission should be sent to Housing Navigator Eboney Allmon at eboney@mbl.51e.myftpupload.com.

Documents required PRIOR to screening interview for admission:

  1. Verification of disability
  2. Letter of Homelessness from Case Manager
  3. Applicant Birth Certificate
  4. Applicant Social Security Card
  5. Applicant Photo Identification

Documents required 7 days prior to scheduled move-in date (or proof of obtaining): A screening interview for admission can be scheduled without these. After 7 days, we will move on to the next candidate until documents are obtained:

  1. Child(ren)’s Social Security Card(s)
  2. Child(ren)’s Birth Certificate(s)

Documents required within first 30 days after move-in: Clients CAN move in without these documents, but they will not come off probationary period until all of these are turned in. Can work with Amethyst Place’s Housing Navigator or outside agency to obtain these:

  1. Verification an application has been completed for Section 8 and/or Shelter Plus Care Income Verification
  2. Copy of Assessment and Treatment Plan from Treatment Agency
  3. Police report/background check, no more than 30 days old
